We treasure community, one of the most distinguishing marks of Franciscanism. We make a committed effort to live in an atmosphere of freedom wherein each person can be herself, transparent before God and others, all the while calling one another to growth through support and encouragement of those with whom she lives.

As Christians living together, we realize that community does not just happen. By sharing graced moments together, we come to recognize the needs and dreams of those whom we call "Sister". By making the needs of our own hearts known, listening to others, we learn to appreciate our unity and diversity. We are enriched by the gifts and uniqueness of each Sister.

Instead of competitiveness, we are called to mutuality. Instead of self-centeredness, shared living is the common rule. Instead of negativism, support of one another is typical. Service replaces control, classism is destroyed by solidarity, and domination is overcome by respect. Over all these, the Sister strives constantly to put on love.

How does all this translate into a personal daily lived experience? This is one Sister's reflection on community living: "Community brings to mind images of sharing simple joys, heartfelt sorrows, everyday ups and downs. We look to each other for support as Francis did to his brothers, a Christ-bonding of persons so intimately united in a single purpose - to love and serve God alone. We share a sisterliness which is deeper and stronger than blood ties."
